Fashion Designers develop entire collections making use of their strong interest in aesthetics, fashion, and their great capacity for design, colour, and form. They understand the latest trends and create innovative concepts.
This part-time further training provides students with the skills to become a successful designer. It enables graduates to work not only in the clothing industry and the textile trade but in fashion editorial teams and in trend offices as well. The Fashion Designer Level 2 Federal Examination also provides you with the methods and specialised knowledge you need to set up your own label.
The Fashion Designer course is designed to prepare graduates for the following scope of duties.
- development and presentation of collection concepts meeting market requirements
- creation of fashion sketches with technical details
- usage of design software to create visualisations and collection portfolios
- procurement of sample material and preparation of prototype production
The further training covers the following topics in particular:
- general, commercial, and creative basics
- methods for developing and presenting collection concepts
- knowledge of economic coherences in a cultural context
- clothing procurement

Facts & Figures
- Completed apprenticeship as a clothing designer (Federal Certificate of Vocational Education and Training)
or
- an apprenticeship in a different industry or an equivalent qualification (e.g. baccalaureate, federal vocational baccalaureate or specialised school certificate) and 2 years of practical experience in design or fashion

Teaching materials are included in the tuition fees. Additional costs will apply for excursions. An additional examination fee is charged for the Fashion Designer Level 2 Federal Examination.
After the level 2 federal examination, 50% of the tuition fees (CHF 2745 per semester) will be refunded to graduates by the federal government.

Apart from creative skills, working as a designer requires individuality, assertiveness, stamina, and curiosity. Before the training starts, an obligatory proficiency test is held. The further training also prepares students for setting up their own label.
