The Fashion Specialist course of study (Level 1 Federal Examination) provides an introduction to the world of fashion. Students learn about basic cutting and processing techniques and acquire a sound basic knowledge that can be developed further in a wide range of areas within the textile and clothing industry.

Prospects

Following completion of the course of study and vocational examination, fashion specialists are able to develop individual models and assess their quality, taking into account trends in fashion and customer requirements. They work in model studios and take on advisory roles within quality assurance, purchasing, and sales.

Scope of activities

The Fashion Specialist course is designed to prepare graduates for the following scope of duties:

  • creating models in the studio based on customer requests
  • developing prototypes based on efficient processing methods
  • advising customers in specialised fashion stores
  • assisting purchasing or quality assurance departments in the retail trade

Content

The further training focuses on these topics:

  • product knowledge of textiles and clothing
  • pattern development for customers (classic outerwear) incl. fitting
  • processing techniques as per industrial guidelines
  • preparation of individual models

Subjects such as fashion information, fashion sketches, colour and style advice, and sales training are an important enhancement to the course. The focus is on communication methods and successful customer advice. The necessary skills are acquired from practical work in the in-house production studio which has modern equipment in line with industry standards. Practical skills are consolidated in independent practice sequences. The training is oriented towards learning success and concludes with an interdisciplinary final project in the last semester.

  • an equivalent qualification (e.g. baccalaureate, federal vocational baccalaureate or specialised school certificate)

Fees

CHF 3600.– per semester (part-time)*
CHF 7200.– per semester (full-time)*
Teaching materials are included in the tuition fees. An additional examination fee is charged for the Level 1 Federal Examination Fashion Specialist.

 

After the vocational examination 50% of the tuition fees (part-time: CHF 1800 per semester, full-time: CHF 3600 per semester) will be refunded to graduates by the federal government.
