Creative thinking and scientific curiosity qualify students for the Textile Design & Technology degree course. Learn about innovative design, functional textiles and study textile technology to gain insight into underlying development and production processes. The course focuses on practical work in particular.

Prospects

Graduates have profound knowledge of product development, production processes, and corresponding marketing techniques. This enables them to obtain management positions in production companies within the textile industry, in research institutes, and in the textile trade.

Scope of activities

The bachelor degree course Textile Design & Technology is designed to prepare students for the following scope of duties.

 

  • responsibility for the development and design of new products, procedures, and processes
  • management of interdisciplinary project groups
  • management of operations or departments
  • responsibility for quality assurance within the company
  • leadership positions in management

Requirements

  • Completed apprenticeship (Federal Certificate of Vocational Education and Training) in relevant occupations or
  • an apprenticeship in a different industry or an equivalent qualification (e.g. baccalaureate, federal vocational baccalaureate or specialised school certificate) with placement or vocational experience

During the course of the study programme the student must hold a half-time position (at least 50%) in the textile industry for the degree to be recognised by the state.

Depending on their prior education, students must complete entry modules on the topics of textile studies, product knowledge, fashion, accounting, and business/law before starting with the degree.

Note

Course will be held in German. Modules relevant to the Bachelor’s degree will be held in English from the 5th semester on. The STC offers corresponding preparation courses.

Pflichtmodule

The course of study is fully modularised. Students attend modules of 45 or 90 lectures. The degree course focuses on subject-specific modules that form the students’ core competence. Interdisciplinary modules supplement the course of study.
