World of Jeans

In this module, we will be looking at everybody’s favourite item of clothing. Starting from the cotton plant, moving through cutting techniques and to the latest finishing methods, students will become familiar with how a pair of jeans is manufactured. We will also be exploring the exciting story of how jeans came about, their place in society and the textile industry.

The module covers the following topics:

  • the story of how jeans came to be
  • raw materials and woven fabrics in jeans manufacturing
  • the jeans finishing process
  • cutting techniques and ready-to-wear clothing
  • innovations in the world of jeans

No previous knowledge required.

Degree/title

Participants will receive a confirmation of attendance on completion of the module.
This module can form part of a HF (college of higher education/BSc degree course); it will be considered to have been passed if the assessment process stipulated in the graduation regulations is successfully completed.

Fees

CHF 1290.- (incl. teaching materials) Additional costs will apply for excursions.

Note

For participating HF (college of higher education/BSc degree) students, the cost of one elective module per quarter is included in the semester fees.
