Interior designers professionally create room concepts and design spaces. They develop and present creative design concepts, offer individualised advice and are particularly customer-focused in their work.

Prospects

Interior designers work as specialists in furniture businesses, are employed as furnishing specialists, and develop items of furniture. It is also possible to work independently in your own studio. The focus is on collaboration with other specialised fields and on the provision of competent advice to the client.

Scope of activities

The Interior Designer STF course is designed to prepare graduates for the following scope of duties:

  • creation of aesthetic design concepts for interior design in a wide variety of areas
  • development of property-related design ideas, presentation using visualisations, mood boards, and material samples
  • provision of client advice taking into account individual requirements and acting as the interface to the specialists involved
  • knowledge of styles and trends in the fields of architecture, interior design, art, and design
  • extending knowledge of perception, materials, and colours

Content

The further training focuses in these topics:

  • Set-up and development of furnishing, colour and material concepts for interior design
  • Analogue, digital and 3D visualisation methods
  • Basics of drawing, representation of perspectives, and colourisation
  • Familiarisation with a wide range of materials and the ability to combine them stylistically with confidence
  • Practical development of interior design concepts
  • Professional set-up and documentation of projects
  • the latest consultation communication methods

  • Completed apprenticeship (Federal Certificate of Vocational Education and Training) or
  • An equivalent qualification (e.g. baccalaureate, federal vocational baccalaureate or specialised school certificate)
