Learn to develop, produce and position inventive products with expertise: Thanks to their extensive specialised knowledge, Textile technicians (Dipl. HF) maintain a professional overview and ensure quality standards are met with the aid of innovative technologies.
Textile technicians (Dipl. HF) choose between a wide range of jobs and positions: They are employed as specialists and hold management positions in international companies within the textile and clothing industry. Possible fields of work include fashion design, product development, pattern cutting technology, purchasing and procurement, clothing production, and quality assurance.
The Textile Technician course is designed to prepare graduates for the following scope of duties. :
- product and collection design including colour and material concepts
- pattern development, fitting and writing of fact sheets for production processes
- Production of patterns and prototypes
- planning and monitoring of production processes both on-site and abroad
- integration of the latest technologies to ensure the implementation of innovative solutions
- communication and collaboration with suppliers in the purchasing process
- quality assurance

- Completed apprenticeship (Federal Certificate of Vocational Education and Training) in relevant occupations or
- an apprenticeship in a different industry or an equivalent qualification (e.g. baccalaureate, federal vocational baccalaureate or specialised school certificate) with placement or vocational experience.
During the course of the study programme the student must hold a half-time position (at least 50%) in the textile industry for the degree to be recognised by the state. Depending on their prior education, students must complete entry modules on the topics of textile studies, product knowledge, fashion, accounting, and business/law before starting with the degree.
Textile technician (Advanced Federal Diploma of Higher Education (“Dipl. HF”))
6 semesters on a part-time basis (1 day and 1 evening per week) as well as e-learning and self-study
1st & 2nd semester: Monday evening &Tuesday
3rd & 4th semester: Tuesday evening & Wednesday
5th & 6th semester Wednesday evening & Thurday
Optional: 7th semester: Friday August 2018

Teaching materials are included in the tuition fees. Additional costs apply for excursions.
After the fourth semester, students will have the opportunity to register for the Bachelor degree course in addition to the Advanced Federal Diploma of Higher Education. The Bachelor’s degree is awarded by the University of West London. Students must prove sufficient knowledge of English to apply for the Bachelor degree course.
Pflichtmodule
The course of study is fully modularised. Students attend modules of 45 or 90 lectures. The degree course focuses on subject-specific modules to form the students’ core competence at the interface between design and technology. Interdisciplinary modules supplement the course of study.
